Why Marine Loan Calculator Exists
Boat financing math is scattered across dealer brochures, lender fine print, and forum threads that go stale within a year. Nobody had pulled the whole picture into one place: what a monthly payment actually looks like, how sales tax shifts by state, how trade-in value changes the loan, how insurance and upkeep stack on top of the payment itself.
We built the tools we wished existed when we started looking into boat loans ourselves.
What We Do
We build free calculators that break down every angle of boat and yacht financing. Each one runs the same lender-grade amortization formula banks use, built into a tool that updates the moment you change a number. No signup, no email gate, no sales call afterward.
- Payment and affordability: work forward from a purchase price or backward from a monthly budget to see what fits.
- Amortization and payoff: see the full year-by-year schedule, and how extra payments shorten the term.
- Refinance and trade-in: test whether a lower rate today beats your current loan, or what a trade-in offsets on a new one.
- Ownership costs: insurance and total cost of ownership tools that budget for what happens after the loan closes.
Why We Built It This Way
Most boat loan content online comes from lenders themselves, and lenders have a reason to nudge the numbers in their favor. We don’t originate loans or push specific lenders. That keeps the numbers straightforward. When a calculator shows a monthly payment, that payment reflects the math, not a marketing angle.
We also spent real time on details other calculators skip. Boat sales tax depends on where you register the boat, not where you buy it, and several states cap the total tax at a flat dollar figure once the purchase price crosses a threshold. A flat percentage calculation misses that entirely. Our state tax tool builds those caps in directly.
Who This Is For
Whether it’s a first console boat or a live-aboard yacht, the financing questions are the same ones: what will this cost monthly, what will it cost total, and where does the budget start to strain. These tools are built to answer those questions in minutes, using the same math a lender would run, without the sales pitch attached.
A Work in Progress
We keep adding calculators as new questions come up from readers and from our own research into boat financing.
